Kathmandu: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey has called on the European Union (EU) to lift the long-standing ban on Nepali airlines operating in EU skies.

During a meeting at the Ministry with an EU delegation led by Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo, Minister Pandey emphasized the importance of removing the ban to support Nepal's aviation and tourism sectors. He highlighted the longstanding diplomatic partnership between Nepal and the EU, which spans over five decades.

Minister Pandey urged the EU to expedite efforts to lift the restriction, noting its adverse effects on Nepal's tourism industry.

Ambassador Lorenzo acknowledged the impact of the air ban on Nepal's tourism sector and underscored the importance of Nepal achieving technological upgrades in aviation safety. She also noted that France's Airbus company is prepared to assist Nepal in strengthening its civil aviation capabilities.

The EU imposed the ban on Nepali airlines in 2013, citing safety concerns. Efforts to lift the restriction remain a priority for Nepal’s aviation authorities.
